We are a community trust established to restore the Mauri of Hokianga harbour and other catchments influencing the health of Moana Nui a Kiwa.
Improving water quality is a key focus for the group, though much of our work focuses on planting and fencing along streams and contributories to the Hokianga Harbour, this includes Waimamaku and the Wekaweka Valley. Tiaki Nga Wai O Hokianga have already started restoration planting beside the Waimamaku bowling club with Te Roroa, Otaua and Rawene.
We have established nurseries at the Kaikohe Pioneer village, up the Taita and in Oue, with a vision to encourage and help anyone in the Hokianga that would like to start a nursery as a potential business, including the Waimamaku Community as a whole.
If you are thinking of undertaking riparian planting on your property or within the Jokianga catchment, Tiaki Nga Wai O Hokianga is happy to provide you with advice and support.
We can provide information on seed gathering, plant propagation, nursery management and assistance with obtaining funding.
