WEKAWEKA LANDCARE GROUP
COMMUNITY GROUP, CONSERVATION
OPENING HOURS: MEETINGS AT THE WEKAWEKA HALL
ADDRESS: WEKAWEKA ROAD, WAIMAMAKU
We are a community-run environmental initiative operating out of the Wekaweka Valley in South Hokianga. We were established in 2002, and we currently undertake pest management and monitoring programmes across approximately 400 hectares of
privately owned land in the valley. The high numbers of endangered and rare species of flora and fauna present in the valley have resulted in parts of this area being classified as ‘outstanding natural landscape’ by the Northland Regional Council.
Wekaweka Landcare is committed to restoring the indigenous biodiversity of the Wekaweka Valley through predator control, monitoring, education, and improving ecological processes.
However; despite more than 25 years of active management, possums, rats, stoats (and pigs!) continue to negatively impact our forests and the creatures that live within them. Many once common native species are now in decline and we are running out of time.
Do you have the desire to volunteer some of your time this spring? We need your help to distribute Siphacinone (ratabate) along bush tracks, targeting
ats; the main predator of small birds and invertebrates. If you wish to help, please fill in the contact form or check the events calendar and we will let you know when our next action is going to take place.
